Our History and Vision

In the year 2020, several academic institutions, community-based organizations, health systems, and local governments came together to see and feel the disproportionate barriers for the Latino community in accessing vaccination against COVID-19. That same year, this coalition obtained a grant from the CDC Foundation and thus the Mid-Atlantic Latino Coalition for Equity in Vaccination (MALVEC) was formalized, with the objective of strengthening the community arms that they reach the community.

Currently, MALVEC has 10 member organizations dedicated to achieving health equity for the Latino population in the region.

Our mission is to facilitate access to the COVID vaccine for the entire Latino population of Maryland.
